Teachers: Kaaren Wiken & Carola Butler
A Sewing Weekend will be held at the Atlanta Soto Zen Center. All members of ASZC as well as members of the STO Affiliate Network who are sewing on their Rakusu or O'kesa, as well as members who would like to learn more about the Zen sewing tradition and help out, are invited to attend the retreat. Instruction will be given by Eijun Carola Butler. Participants are encouraged to bring their own sewing supplies.
Supplies:
You are REQUIRED to contact Carola Ei Jun (whom will be providing sewing assistance during the retreat) at [email protected] about sewing supplies you will need to bring to the retreat. By contacting Carola, you will also help her determine what supplies (i.e. enough fabric for a Rakusu) she will need to bring.
Online Manual:
There is an online sewing manual at http://www.mnzencenter.org/pdf/tomoe_sewing_book.pdf that details how to sew the O'kesa and Rakusu. You are welcome to download this manual. Carola Ei Jun request that if you do download the manual, that you consider leaving a donation (http://mnzencenter.org/donations.php).
Food:
Meals will be provided by tenzo. Tea, coffee, water, and snacks will also be provided.
Accommodation:
Accommodations (Bunk bed style or in Zendo) can be booked for $20 per night. Please contact Lawrell Zammai Studstill to inquire about availability to stay at the zendo during the retreat at [email protected].
Fees:
$100 + Teacher Dana(Please bring cash or check for teacher offering)
Dana (Supporting the Dharma Teachers):
Please note that Dana is not included in the registration fee. Dana donation is an opportunity to express gratitude for the teachings which have been received and allows the Teacher to pay his/her living expenses. Therefore we will place a Dana box at our retreat. For additional thoughts about Dana please follow this LINK.
